About 20 sailors turned up at todays Wellington Slalom Champs held in Seatoun, greeted by perfect conditions. The sun was out with a good 20-25 knots steady northerly wind. Nick Hunn, the organisator of the event did well in keeping the format simple, the whole bunch was sent out on the race course at the same time, which meant the standing around time was minimal. The course was a figure 8 standard course with timed flying starts, rounding the outside buoy twice. 6 races were held altogether, with the 4 best results counting for the overall result.
There was some good action, and placings were fairly consistent throughout the races, which are reflected in the overall placings of the event. The starts were quite dodgy with the full on racers with stopwatches were flying through the starting line whilst the guys on smaller or wave gear were trying to stick to the starting line as close as possible as they had problems planing, which resulted in some close calls and nearly carnage, but everyone managed to get past each other somehow in the end.
Clayton Dougan showed a very consistent style, taking the overall win by winning most races, whilst Bronwyn proved she is the undisputed Wellington Racing Queen.
Prize givings and BBQ were held after the racing, thanks to everyone for coming along and making it happen, and special thanks to Nick Hunn who organized and ran the whole event.Following are the results, listed are those participants who got the required number of valid results over 6 races:
OPEN WOMEN 1st Clayton Dougan 1st Bronwyn Ward 2nd Dean Dougan 2nd Simone Hollenstein 3rd Gareth Wood 3rd Carmen Sulzberger 4th Gary Mc Corry 5th Mark Hollenstein 5th James Thomas 7th John Duncan 8th Paul Cooper 9th Bronwyn Ward 10th Anton
