25.2.2001        Freestyle clinic Seatoun went off !

About 20 very keen intermediate/expert sailors gathered in Seatoun on Saturday the 24.2.2001 for the WWA Freestyle clinic, which was a full success. The clinic was organized by Gary Mc Corry, who did an awesome job. At first, Gary who was assisted by swiss international sailor and freestyle expert Thomas Mueller explained all the common freestyle moves on land with a simulator. After that, questions were answered and participants were handed out leaflets, which once again showed how all the moves work. The good thing about freestyle is, all participants were able to practice a move which suited their level of experience, which means some were practising spocks whilst other were perfectioning their jybes. The wind kicked in nicely, with a steady 20-25 knots after lunchtime, the heath was on, everyone being fully hyped and ready to try out new stuff. Some horrible crashes were experienced especially by those tryint the aerial gybes, volcans, spocks and forwards. But crashing is a part of freestyle and heaps of fun!
After the event, the sailors moved to the Lobster Cafe in Seatoun where moves were discussed and where the video footage which Gary took of the sailors was analyzed.
The conditions overall were quite difficult, as the northerly created considerable chop, which is good for aerial freestyle moves but not so much for the planing/sailcontrol freestyle moves, which is why progress for those practizing the Helitack or the carve 360 was limited. The clinic however was a great success, everyone had a great time, and I have already heard sailors saying this should be done again soon !!!
Thanks to Gary and the WWA for the great event !!
