The questions:

My first time: (windsurfing !?!?!)
On Dad's waveboard in the Paremata Harbour, 10 years ago.

Best windsurfing experience:
Winning the 99' Youth Nationals in Taupo - selection for the  MISTRAL ONE DESIGN

Worst windsurfing experience:
First time Plimmerton 1996. It was a big Plimmerton day and my brother convinced me to go out. Got washed badly in the huge swell and tried waterstarting for about 1/2 hour. At the end, my brother helped me to get on the board again and  I sailed straight back to the beach. Luckily no carrying gear over rocks and stuff!

What fascinates you the most about windsurfing?
It's just so much fun! I like the variety of the sport. Each time you go out it's different  - there's so much to learn.

How do you see the sport of windsurfing developing in the future ?
I think that it will become more popular again because of the improved gear and the variety this sport offers.

What would you like to see happening in the Wellington Windsurfing scene, or what would be a really cool thing to happen ?
Hhmmm...it would be cool to see more people sailing. I like the events and fun races where everyone meets, competes and is having a good time. Just more fun competitions would be good.

Something to say to all other windsurfers out there ?
Yaaahhhooooooo!

Gareth - Most improved young Wellington sailor

The most improved young sailor in the Wellington area would definitely have to be Gareth. Coming from the Mistral sailing background where he has competed nationally and overseas, his skill has further improved dramatically over the last 1-2 years. He is a real allrounder, with huge skills on a raceboard, and nowadays also ripping hard in the waves. You can see him sailing at Plimmerton on any given day, be it racing, freestyle or waves, his versatility is enourmous. Gareth has learned moves like the Volcan in no time, and just last week pulled off his first backloop. His sail handling skills are really good, and he will be a force to be considered at the next Wellington Freestyle event.
Gareth well deserves to be the sailor of the month, because he loves the sport so much,  has improved significantly and he motivates a lot of sailors out there by pushing the limits himself. We will be hearing more about Gareth !!
