The questions:

My first time: (windsurfing !?!?!)
Henly lake in Masterton ~ 1994. Once off attempt at a school activity event. Thought was pretty cool, but the longboards didnt really reflect what I had seen from magazines with all the cool jumps and waverides. Only later, through "Dougy" (Clayton Dougan) did I find out what it was all about !!

Best windsurfing experience:
Today in Plimmerton, sunny, 30 knots, waves, just being out there with the friends having an awesome time !

Worst windsurfing experience:
Henly lake in Masterton about 3 weeks ago. Super gusty, either gale or nothing, no fun at all. Paddled around in duckshit all day long.

What fascinates you the most about windsurfing?
It's so natural. Just play with the elements. Its radical and easy to pick up. No motors involved.

In comparison to other activities and sports you do, do you think the windsurfing scene and sailors are approachable, friendly and helpful ?
Yes, its awesome. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. There is a good atmosphere and everyone is having a great time !

What advice would you give to other beginner/intermediate sailors out there?
Listen to advice of more experienced sailors, and see what works best for you.

What would you like to see happening in the Wellington Windsurfing scene, or what would be a really cool thing to happen ?
If Dougy (Clayton Dougan) got a girlfriend !

Something to say to all other windsurfers out there ?
Sorry if I get in their way !

Craig would have to be one of the most enthusiastic and talented sailors out in Plimmerton these days. Altough his first attempts at windsurfing reach back 6 years, it is only recently through his mate Dougy (Clayton Dougan), that Craig discovered the "real" world of windsurfing. Initially, Craig was able to borrow Claytons gear and learn the basics at Plimmerton beach, but soon realized that own gear was the way to go. There was no mucking around with big clumbsy gear, Craig was going to get right into it and started off buying second hand wavegear. This has worked out very well for him, and after 6 months, or probably not more than 15-20 sessions, Craig is out there on big Plimmerton days battling it out with the elements. He crashes hard, but thats the name of the game, and he certainly is used to it, as his other activities are motocross riding, snowboarding and many other full on action activities. It seems nothing can stop him, and he has always a smile on his face. It seems everytime he is out there he is having the time of his life ! Living in Masterton, Craig usually comes over the hill for the weekends, and goes sailing with his buddy Clayton. It is pretty unbeliavable that someone can be out there in big waves, starting to jump and waveride in pretty strong winds, after just 6 months of sailing ! But Craig is a great example that a "no fear go for it" approach and by loving the sport so much, the progress comes quickly by itself. It is great so see new, young and motivated sailors at the beach, watch out for Craig, it will not take long until he is ripping it up very hard !

Going strong!

Its all about speed and air time for this action man!
